This cottage was located on an orchard in the Blue Mountain Region. The Client wanted a ranch-style building that would allow for guests to have their own space. The design reconfigured a traditional arrangement, shifting the guest and master bedrooms to opposite ends of the building in order to promote privacy. As a result, the main living space which incorporated the living, dining, and kitchen spaces was located centrally within the design. Additionally, small buffer zones were established between the main spaces in order to direct views towards the orchards. Finally, the client’s background in the steel industry was represented through exposed steel throughout the design and 2 steel awnings which passively shade, and modulate light into the interior of the cottage.
